Yard sale finds

Friday, June 27th, 2008

The best part of my weekend is Saturday morning when we drive through nearby towns searching for yard sales. Sometimes I check Craigslist or our local papers beforehand to find ones I’d like to visit, and other times we just drive aimlessly and follow whatever signs we come across.
I’ve noticed a few things:
* Huge yard [...]

Who doesn’t love a ruffle?!

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

I’m so excited about this skirt! I had this Amy Butler fabric that hadn’t yet been made into a tablecloth or napkins, and I thought it would make a nice skirt. I was imagining an A-line skirt, but wanted it to be somewhat more interesting than just a straight skirt. I decided to try a [...]

My version of the Amy Butler Barcelona Skirt

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

I thought I’d give it another go, this time with a skirt. I have to call it ‘my version of the Amy Butler skirt’, since I made it without the pattern. (I was feeling kind of cheap, and decided against buying the pattern.) I had seen a couple pictures of a few of these skirts [...]

I made a dress!

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

I impressed myself and actually managed to create a garment! As I was afraid of though, everything worked out and it even fits me, which is great… the unfortunate part is that I really haven’t warmed up any to that fabric I used. Morgan noted that it is flesh colored, and says that from a [...]

This is a story about a dress…

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

I may have mentioned that I was going to attempt to alter a pair of pants. Right now they’re quite long, and I was thinking about making them into a cropped pair. Easy, right? Perhaps too easy. Instead I thought I’d skip right over the easy alteration and attempt to make a dress. I’ll show [...]

A few of my favorite Etsy sellers

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

I thought I’d share a few of my favorite Etsy shops. Of course, there are many more, and it’s certainly hard to narrow it down to a few, so I’ll stick to those I’ve actually ordered from. One of my first Etsy orders was from lgbrinkley. She makes perfectly teeny tiny pottery bowls, just perfect [...]

Happy Birthday!

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

The date of my last post, Friday, June 13th, was my sister’s birthday. I finally caught up with her to give her her gift, and now that’s it’s been opened, I can post a picture here

Happy birthday Whit! I hope you enjoy your very own set of handmade napkins!

handmade outdoor pillows

Friday, June 13th, 2008

I made these pillows recently to add a little color to our deck. I bought the fabric at Joanns - it’s a heavy, outdoor type fabric, and they happened to have several different colors of the same print. I happened to have many similar sized pillow inserts already, just waiting for some good fabric to [...]

An Update on the Cathedral Quilt

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

I’ve made a bit of progress on the quilt, though not as much as I would have liked. I started out at a good pace, but then quickly put it aside and went back to making napkins. At this rate, it really will be years before it’s large enough to use!

These are the two sections [...]

rick rack in the mail, flowers by the deck

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Our peonies are about to bloom. Late, perhaps, but this is Vermont… although I have noticed that many other people in the area already have peonies that are in full bloom. In any case, we didn’t have a chance to see them last year, so it will be fun to see how they look. I [...]
