Are you tired of all these triangles yet? I hope not! This is obviously the scrappy version, and boy do I love it! All my favorite scraps together in one quilt.

It’s pretty fun to look at this quilt and pick out all my favorite fabrics from past projects.

This one feels very summery to me, what with all those bright cheerful prints paired with the bright white, so I was very happy to finish it up just in time for one last summer weekend.

A perfect quilt for the waterfront, wouldn’t you say?

One of my favorite parts is the straight line quilting. It’s a good thing this quilt is relatively small, since wow, those lines take a long time! For whatever reason, I always have second thoughts when I start straight line quilting like this, but in the end I always love it. This time around I used Quilters Dream Request batting, and I think it’s fabulous. It’s a really thin loft and I love the feel of it, especially with this dense quilting. Maybe not the best choice for cold Vermont winters, but very nice for a summer quilt!

The backing is a solid piece of one of my favorite Flea Market Fancy prints. Time to stop hoarding it and instead put it to use where I’ll be able to enjoy it!

Here’s hoping we have at least one more warm weekend to enjoy this one!

I finished up this red and purple quilt and I love it! Which is really kind of weird, since neither red nor purple have ever topped my list for favorite colors.

I used a variety of red and purple solids and monochromatic prints in the same colors for the improv blocks. Then I sashed those blocks in a dark gray solid. I sashed three of the blocks in a dark gray printed fabric (though the print reads a bit lighter than I was hoping for) for a bit of variety.

Then these blocks were sashed with a nice light gray. I had two matching monochromatic gray prints, which I decided to mix in, and I do believe it’s one of my favorite parts. I think it adds some fun and interest to the sashing.

I kept the back pretty simple, using the same light gray sashing color, along with a wide improv strip of the remaining red and purple scraps.

I love me some straight line quilting, and I really love the quilting Kate did on this quilt (I may have mentioned this once or twice before!) so I decided to give it a try on this quilt. I marked the centerpoint of the quilt and then drew on lines 1″ apart for this fun chevron pattern.

It’s all bound with Kona Cerise, which I love. This color looks so great with the gray sashing and backing. Originally this quilt was intended for the shop, but well, I kind of love it… (and yes, this is exactly how we ended up with so many quilts in this house!)

I got my picnic quilt finished, just in time for some gorgeous spring weather! We spent the last couple of days down in beautiful Southern Vermont, and those few hours in the car provided a perfect opportunity to work on the binding on this quilt.

(finished up the binding while enjoying some sun on the deck)

This patchwork quilt is made up predominately of lovely Denyse Schmidt prints – some Flea Market Fancy, a little Katie Jump Rope, and lots of her newest line for Joann’s. I love how well they all work together, and I think they’re just fabulous in a simple patchwork design.

I used 3 1/2″ squares and it’s definitely the largest patchwork quilt I’ve made to date, finishing at about 70″ square, which I think will be the perfect size for the three of us to relax on this summer.

I used one of the large plaid prints from the DS Quilts line for the backing. I didn’t use it in the quilt top, as I thought the pattern was a bit too large, but thought it would be an ideal backing for a picnic quilt. Unfortunately, and what you can’t see here, is that the piece I bought seemed to not be printed quite straight, so it doesn’t line up quite as well as I’d like, but that’s ok — who’s looking at the back anyway?!

Unlike other quilts I’ve made in the past which I thought would be used as picnic quilts, this one actually will get used outdoors! And in fact, we tried it out straightaway, enjoying our morning coffee and scones out in the park.

I’m looking forward to many more!!

Thank you all so very much for your comments on Max’s arrival! We finally arrived home Tuesday afternoon after an extended stay at the hospital due to an unexpected c-section. It was a real treat to leave the hospital on a beautiful, sunny spring day — and really really wonderful to get back home!

Since then, we’ve spent hours enjoying and observing every little movement and facial expression this little guy makes (and trying to commit them all to film – though don’t worry, I won’t share them all here!).

(he looks just like me, right?!)

He’s been doing a bit of this

and a bit of this…

And I think I may have found myself a new quilt model… doesn’t a quilt photograph better with a baby on it?

This one is a second small baby sized Flea Market Fancy strip quilt which I finished a couple weeks ago. It’s similar to the one posted here and it’ll be making its way to the shop when I find myself with a little window of time!

Another strip quilt (I gave fair warning, didn’t I?!) I decided to make a couple strip quilts using a bit more flea market fancy, but this time separating out the colorways, so today we have the green/gray version. While I like to think of all those greens as signs of spring, that’s just not the case here yet [as seen in the gray, icy, rainy, snowy photo below]

I really like the mix of green and gray – that gray fmf seed print is one of my favorites, and I’ve managed to sneak a bit of it into each of my recent quilts.

As with previous strip quilts, I’ve quilted this one with straight lines along each seam line. I like that the minimal quilting keeps this quilt nice and soft, and I always love the pattern it creates on the backing.

Speaking of, I went with a lighter gray solid for the backing of this one so that you’d be able to see those quilting lines. And of course a couple extra strips of the printed fabrics for good measure!

This one measures about 40″ x 57″ and is now listed for sale in the shop.

I’m so glad that you guys like strips quilts too (and that you don’t seem to mind seeing several others!)

This one is for sure an instant favorite – you certainly can’t go wrong with Heather Ross fabrics. Anyone who’s sewn with these fabrics know how supremely soft and lovely they are.

I went for an overly pink look here, using all the blush Mendocino prints, and adding in several other Kona solids in various shades of pink. (The little bit of orange is there to try and prevent this one from being too sugary sweet!)

And because the Heather Ross fabrics are so fabulous, I opted to not piece the backing and instead use one full piece of this octopus print.

As you can imagine, the result is a super soft quilt – one I wish was more my size and less baby sized!

I sometimes get hung up on a particular type of quilt. In the past there have been many string quilts, and many many patchwork quilts out of all my favorite fabric lines. Currently? Strip quilts. And I think I should apologize ahead of time for the number of strip quilts you may see here coming up. I’ve been a tad obsessed!

This particular one is a favorite, not only because it’s made out of the lovely Flea Market Fancy, but also because of it’s cute little size – perfect for a new baby. (If I had to guess, I’d say it’s about 35″ x 45″ or so – it’s upstairs and I’m downstairs… need I say more?)

I know I said I wasn’t going to make any more quilts for the baby, but I think you should have known that was a lie. A Flea Market Fancy quilt was a necessity. I’m hoping that the baby will embrace a little pink in his life!

I used gray for the backing, along with two pieced sections which were left over from the front. I always like straight line quilting on strip quilts – it creates a nice pattern of horizontal lines on the backing.

I’ll be back soon with another strip quilt!

I can’t decide which I like more on this quilt – the random plus signs, or the shades of blue colorblock background. I had no real design in mind when I pulled out this stack of fabric – I was mainly thinking that I wanted to get a chance to use some of that cute Heather Ross gnome fabric. I didn’t want to cut it up too much, so I went with that large plus sign in the bottom left, and from there just started making up plus signs of various sizes.

The colorblock background came about because I didn’t have enough of any one blue solid, which is good, since I really like the mix of blues in the background. And those little squares and strips? Just a little something extra!

I used the dark blue solid for the majority of the backing, along with a wide strip of all the prints from the front.

As far as quilting goes – I was going to stipple it, but then, due to sheer laziness I went with the predictable random straight lines (the larger sewing machine I use for free motion quilting is put away, and I had no interest in dragging it out and setting it up. I’ve had my eye on a Janome Horizon for some time now – seems like I could replace my two machines with the one which would do everything I need…. if anyone has one and has opinions, I’d love to hear them!).

Anyway, for now this quilt will get added to the baby’s pile ‘o quilts. Though that pile is getting a bit too tall so some editing might be in order!

Previous post about this quilt here.

So… I finally finished my first quilt of 2011!

I started this one at the end of 2010, and wrote up a tutorial on how to make these blocks. I even got Morgan to sandwich it and then somehow it got stacked in a pile of finished quilts and I forgot all about it. Then when browsing the FITF flickr group the other day I saw a couple other lovely quilt tops made using my tutorial, and I realized I needed to get this one done!

I quilted this one with straight lines, running both vertically and horizontally alongside the sashing. I went with double lines on every other row and column to give it a bit more interest.

It’s bound with a bright spring green solid, which I think really complements all the blues and purples of the Innocent Crush fabrics.

The backing is one of my favorite prints from this line, along with a bit of patchwork detail at the top and bottom. It measures about 40″ x 55″ and makes a great lap quilt or a cute crib sized quilt! It’s listed in the shop!

Fabrics are from Anna Maria Horner's Innocent Crush line - the Charmed colorway. These fabrics can be found at many of the shops listed in my sidebar.

I’m not exactly sure why the flamingos were out the other day, but I did kind of appreciate it, seeing as it made for a fun surrounding for photos of this baby Dream On quilt! I know you’ve seen this one before, so I’ll be brief – just another cute baby quilt made out of a couple charm packs of Urban Chicks Dream On line.

This one is backed in one of my favorite florals from the line, and then bound in a great pink. Cute and cheerful – perfect for a little girl! It’ll be listed in the shop in case anyone needs a last minute gift!

As for other projects… I’ve been doing a little knitting!

I usually get an urge to knit one or two things during the winter. Unfortunately since it’s so infrequent, I spent most of my time re-learning all the steps! This year might be a banner year for knitting though – so far I’ve made myself a new scarf, a hat, a set of baby legwarmers, and I’m working on a pair of baby pants. (we’ll see how that goes!)

I’m impressing myself, since typically I go no further than a simple scarf! (thank you youtube and all the various knitting tutorials!)

If anyone knows of any other fun, quick (and easy!) knitting patterns, let me know!
