I actually had a chance to meet Lauren in person at an L.A. Modern Quilt Guild meeting a couple years ago. Since meeting, she’s opened this wonderful shop in Los Angeles and from what I’ve seen of it in photos, it looks absolutely gorgeous!

Just a quick little project, but oh so satisfying!!

I used Jeni’s wonderful tutorial for these lined drawstring bags. The first was so quick and easy to put together that I decided I certainly needed two. I’m using them to keep my new knitting projects contained. I haven’t started either project yet, but one will be for a winter hat for Max, and the other will be a honey cowl for myself.

I can’t really call myself a knitter, but I do get the urge every winter. This year I think I’m going to make it my goal to make something more than just a straight scarf! And to that end, a couple of us have started a little Flickr group, Purl and Patchwork, for those who love sewing and knitting. Hopefully it will provide the inspiration (and help!) I need to make my goal a reality! We’d love to have you join if you’re so inclined…

Anyway, even though I have yet to actually start any knitting, I’m feeling quite ready with my cute little drawstring knitting bags!

I got it quilted! (and I forgot how tiring free motion quilting can be!) I was obsessed with getting it done, though now it’s just sitting while I contemplate my binding options. Still haven’t come up with a definite plan yet.

Some happy mail, including this lovely stack of Ruby by Bonnie and Camille. I’m in love with the scallop prints – that gray might be my new favorite!

Along with that, I also received the wool I was waiting for so I could start my Tova dress. I bought this lightweight wool suiting from Fabric.com, mainly based on the color and price. (I wanted to test it out before going with a more expensive option!) I need to pick up some fun colored tights this weekend…

I pulled out a couple old quilt blocks (those that never made it into a quilt!) and turned them into a couple bibs for Max. I used the bib pattern from Lotta Jansdotter’s Simple Sewing for Baby, though I enlarged it just a bit.

And Max, well, he was being pretty cute admiring himself in the mirror. Now that I upgraded my phone, it’s so easy to capture it, both on camera and on video! So, in case you’d like to see a quick little video of Max with his mirror, I’ve posted it below -

I got some happy mail – a good deal on some Katie Jump Rope fat quarters (on ebay, of all places!), and a fun selection of prints and solids from Hawthorne Threads.

Do any of you have fabrics in your stash that you love, but that you just can’t seem to put to use? This is one such stack for me. I fell in love with these gorgeous Yoshiko Jinzenji fabrics a couple years ago. I bought a couple pieces online and then came across someone selling them at a quilt show, way back in 2009 (it took me a while to find this post!)

I’ve spent lots of time admiring each piece and even more time flipping through Yoshiko Jinzenji’s latest inspiring book, Quilting Line + Color (oh, and if anyone know where I can get a copy of her Simple Quilt book, please do let me know! I’ve been dying to add it to my collection!) But each time I end up putting these fabrics back in their storage bin because I never feel like I can come up with the best way to use them.

So what do you think? What would you make with these fabrics?

I’ve been hoarding little pieces of Liberty fabrics since I started sewing. I’ve purchased lots of small pieces (most recently from Jo at the Organic Stitch Co.) I’ve also been gifted some gorgeous pieces from Kate, Katy, and from a generous blog reader, Isabel. Thank you, thank you!!

It seems no pattern is ever good enough for my pretty Liberty fabrics, so there they sit, boxed in a closet. Sad.

Yesterday I decided to just start using them, starting off with these mini wonky cross blocks, totally inspired by this cute little pincushion made by the lovely Nova.

Nova’s little cross blocks are super teeny tiny and perfect. I’m not that good at working with such tiny pieces, so I opted to make mine a bit larger. I’m going for 3 1/2″ squares, which still appear little and cute. Of course, it’ll take quite a few to make a decent sized quilt! Luckily they’re quick and fun to make.

I love how it only takes a tiny bit of the Liberty prints to make a big impact! I would love to make a large quilt out of these blocks, but I know myself, and I’m quite certain I’d grow tired of it long before I had made enough blocks. It looks like this one is destined to be baby sized…

I fell in love with this wonky zig zag quilt after first seeing it at ting tong and things, and thought that it might be a fun project to use up some of my scraps (which are currently a bit out of hand!!)

They’re overflowing out of their enamel bowls and pots, so it was time to do something. I started by sewing them together in strip sections and then finally decided that this quilt design might be a perfect project for them. Now I’m just waiting for some more Kona white to finish up the top…

(so, while this seemed like it used up lots of scraps, it doesn’t look like it’s made a difference… any other good suggestions for scrappy quilts?)

Loving these Melody Miller Ruby Star Spring fabrics! Max got a cute little pair of pants with some of the remnants from my recent quilt, and I bought this fun print for PJ pants for me. I offered Morgan a pair too, but he declined. Weird…

It’s Children at Play by Sarah Jane, and I think it’s wonderful. I particularly love those stripes, which I may have purchased in every color. I also can’t resist a good polka dot. (purchased here and here)

I’ve already cut into some of the stripes for yet another pair of pants for Max. He keeps growing right out of each pair I make! These are a bit bigger all around, and I added a few inches in length, so hopefully they’ll last for a little while. (Would it be overkill to make a pair in each of the stripes? probably…)

And speaking of that little cutie, I can’t resist showing a couple of photos from this week.

He certainly loves that thumb! Unfortunately, he’s started waking a couple times in the middle of the night (just when I was starting to get really used to a full night’s sleep!) and he doesn’t seem to find his thumb at that time. I’m hoping it’s just a phase (4 month sleep regression?) and hopefully he’ll return to a better sleeping schedule soon. I can hope, right?

As far as this weekend, here’s my to do list -

• Quilt & bind Hot Pink Spring quilt
• PJ pants for me out of Ruby Star Spring
• Rainbow quilt top
• Sew together scraps for some as yet unknown scrappy quilt

Perhaps a bit ambitious… We shall see!
