I haven’t even begun to tire of Laurie’s Tufted Tweets line, and already she has her second line with Robert Kaufman due out in August (right around the corner!… how is it that July always flies by so quickly?!).

This new line is called Urban Circus, and it’s another good one! Fun prints of elephants and giraffes and lots of great geometrics. It will be available in two colorways – Earth and Spring. I think they’re both pretty fantastic, but I’m particularly loving the Earth colorway. I’m always looking for interesting prints for baby boy quilts and I think these would be perfect! (those elephants… I just love them!)

Do you want to win some? Laurie’s celebrating 2 years of blogging with a great giveaway! If you haven’t already entered, head on over here to throw your name in the hat. Laurie will select two winners on Friday morning.

___
And speaking of great new fabrics, please help me welcome my newest sponsor, Monaluna! I’ve been reading Jennifer’s blog for quite a while now — back in February she posted a little peek at her new, self-produced organic line and I immediately bookmarked it so I’d remember to look for it in the future…

(photo from Jennifer’s blog)

Well, it’s here! And I can’t wait to see it in person. (I definitely have to make something with those scooters.) You can take a look at the entire line, and even purchase yardage right from Jennifer by hopping over to her new website and shop!

Our kitchen is pretty neutral, so I try to add color with kitchen towels. And what’s brighter or more fun than Laurie’s new Tufted Tweets fabrics?!

I used two of the prints to make a couple new sets. Each is backed with flour sack towels, and paired with a little vintage cotton rick rack around the edges.

In our kitchen these towels do a double duty. Sometimes they act as hand towels, hanging on the over door (and adding a little color!)-

and sometimes they end up over here in this spot next to the sink where we pile the just-washed dishes. This size fits there pretty perfectly, and I like seeing something pretty while doing a chore I dislike!

And then, since I had already been working on some Tufted Tweets hexagons, I kept on with the kitchen theme and turned them into a couple cute potholders.

I hope Laurie likes Tufted Tweets in her kitchen too, because these potholders will soon be headed her way. It seems only appropriate, since they have her name on them!

___

Notes:

You can find a tutorial for rick rack napkins here. The dishtowels are made exactly the same – just larger! Mine measure about 20″ x 24″, but you could make them whatever size works best for you!

For the potholders, I used 1 layer of Insul-brite and 1 layer of cotton batting

Two years ago, on June 1, 2008, I was convinced to start a blog. Thinking back now, I’m not really sure why I started one — I wasn’t even sure what I was going to blog about! Anyway, my first blog post can be found here, and I imagine you might get a laugh from reading it. I owned that very tiny stack of fabric, and I’m not even sure I even knew how to sew at the time!

So this is a celebration of 2 years of blogging. Turns out I do like blogging, and since starting the blog, turns out I also love (love!) fabric and making quilts. I think it’s fun to celebrate milestones, and I think this one is worth celebrating! And by celebrating, I mean a giveaway, of course! Thanks to my wonderful sponsors, I have a fun list of prizes for you!

So, here they are, in no particular order…

Prizes 1,2, & 3 from Laurie Wisbrun of Scarlet Fig -

Laurie has been designing and printing fabulously fun fabrics through Spoonflower for some time. She also has recently worked with Robert Kaufman and her new line, Tufted Tweets, will be coming out in June. I know you’ve all seen it and love it (I sure do!).

Laurie has generously donated three prizes, one for each winner. There are 2 fat quarter bundles of her Tufted Tweets line and also a 1/2 yard bundle of Laurie’s Donkeys in Wellies collection through Spoonflower.

Prizes 4-8, from Kathy of Pink Chalk Fabrics -

You all know and love Kathy, right? She has a wonderful selection of fabrics as well as a great selection of solids. She’s also well known for her fabulous customer service and her speedy shipping.

Kathy’s generously donated 5 $20 gift certificates so the winners can select exactly what they want!

Prize 9, from Charlie and Lindsay of Hawthorne Threads -

I sometimes feel like Charlie and Lindsay are my neighbors, though while NY is close to VT, it’s not that close! (I do receive my fabrics really quickly though!) They have a really great website — tons of great fabrics from all your favorite designers as well as a fun color matching feature and photos of finished projects. I also love their ‘coming soon’ section – it’s fun to drool over the new fabric lines. They offer discounts for larger purchases and tiered pricing for repeat customers.

They’re offering a fabulous fat quarter bundle of Denyse Schmidt’s newest line, Hope Valley.

Prize 10, from Jody of the Fabric Shoppe -

Jody is a new sponsor, with a wonderful Etsy shop, specializing in all your favorite fabrics, sold by the yard and in fun fat quarter, 1/2 yard, and yard bundles. Jody also puts a different fat quarter on sale for $1 on a weekly basis. I always love to see what’s being offered that week, and of course it’s great to be able to add a fun piece of fabric to your stash for only $1!

Jody’s offering a fat quarter bundle of Freebird, which is the newest line by Momo.

Randi is also a new sponsor. I was first attracted to her shop for her fun, bright mix of fabrics and then I also discovered that she also carries some fun patterns – lots of great bag patterns and my favorite tunic pattern, the Shearwater Kaftan. She also has a really great sale section!

Randi is offering up this great new bag pattern, the Emma Day Bag by Tanya Whelan, as well as 2 yards of fabrics required to make the bag.

Pam is located in Canada and has a great online shop with great printed and solid fabrics. She also sells bundles, patterns, books and even cotton rick rack in great colors. She also has a great blog here, with photos of great quilts. I’m loving these quilts in shades of purples!

Pam is donating one of my favorite books, Liberated Quiltmaking II by Gwen Marston. You might remember that my Flying Farfalle (and my (still unfinished) Dinner Date quilts are inspired by one of the quilts in this book).

Cindy isn’t currently a sponsor, but I absolutely love her pincushions and asked if she’d want to participate in this anniversary giveaway. She collects all kinds of selvedges and creates some of the very best pincushions. I’m lucky enough to have one made of Heather Ross selvedges and I love it! Cindy uses crushed walnut shells and it gives the pincushions a really great weight. Each one has a variety of selvedges and cute piping and a corresponding print for the back.

For this giveaway, Cindy is giving away the pincushion shown in the front in this photo (others, such as the two in the background of the photo, can be found in her Etsy shop).

She has a huge selection of prints and I always find something new (and almost always something I never even knew I needed!) She also has a great selection of Japanese prints and a fun selection of childrens prints. Cynthia has also started Birch Fabrics, which produces 100% organic fabrics.

Cynthia has generously donated a fat quarter bundle of their newest line, Circa 50.

Phiona has donated three wonderful prizes – 1 yard of a gorgeous Nani Iro print as well as two sample bags of Marimekko fabrics, which each include 5 cuts of fun Marimekko prints.

By now I know you’ve all seen photos of this gorgeous new fabric. It’s a new line by Laurie Wisbrun for Robert Kaufman Fabrics, called Tufted Tweets. I had a chance to work with it to create a couple quilts, so I can tell you how absolutely wonderful it is! A huge congrats to Laurie for a really stunning line!

It will be arriving in stores sometime this month, but in the meantime, how would you like to win some? The generous folks at Robert Kaufman have sent two fat quarter packs of the whole line – a total of three yards each. Just think of all the fun you could have!

To enter, leave a comment on this post (one comment per person, please!). Maybe you’d let me know which color is your favorite. And if you already know, maybe which particular print you think will be your favorite. (That’s a hard one to answer – they’re all gorgeous! – but today I’m really feeling the Avian Therapy in sorbet!) Or if you’d rather, let me know what you think you’d make out of these fabrics.

Me? I’d make another quilt. I’m kind of partial to them…

I really dislike grocery stores. Luckily Morgan doesn’t mind them, and he’s sweet enough to do most of the grocery shopping. Each time he goes, we have pretty much the same conversation. It goes a little something like this…

(me) “do you want to take the market bag?”

(morgan) “um…”

Standing in the hallway, he looks at me and then over at the market bag hanging by the door. (At this point, I should remind you that our market bag has pink butterflies on it). There’s a long pause, where I’m guessing he’s trying to come up with some reason why he shouldn’t bring it. He’s got a plethora of excuses… either he’s not getting a lot of stuff and plans on just carrying it, or he thinks we need another paper bag for recycling, or sometimes he just hesitates long enough that I forget and he can slip out without it.

It all boils down to this though… “it’s too pink. And it has butterflies”.

So…problem solved. Not a bit of pink. And no butterflies.

I’m pleased to say he used it, though somewhat begrudgingly. (apparently those stripes aren’t very manly either…)

So here’s what I decided to do with my lovely stack of Poppy fabrics (designed by Laura Gunn). I bought the prints with the large poppies, and after looking at them for a while, I just couldn’t see cutting them up. Since it’s about time to put away the flannel pillowcases, I decided to use these beautiful prints for new spring pillowcases…

Of course, then I couldn’t decide which print I wanted to use, so I decided to use them all. At the time it seemed like a good idea, though now that I have 4 sets of pillowcases, I’m wondering if perhaps that was overkill. Variety is nice, right?

I used my pillowcase tutorial, and was amazed once again how quickly they come together! I’d say I see more of them in my future, but seeing as how I now have 8 new ones, I guess we’re good for a while… now I may have to be on the hunt for some new sheets to match.

I have absolutely nothing to show you. Except maybe what I’ve been doing instead of sewing –

Admiring the flowering trees -

sitting by the lake -

and watching new leaves emerge -

There’s been a tiny bit of sewing – a little hexagon potholder for my sister -

and a new market bag for us -

(fabric is by Mod Green Pod. I bought it at a local shop, but it can also be found online here)

Up next… perhaps a little something Poppyish…

I’m loving this fabric! (Poppy, by Laura Gunn).

I also have plans to quilt two string quilts, so hopefully there will be quilty stuff to show here soon!

Hope you’re out enjoying the weather where you are!

I’ve been thinking about solids lately. I love them, and try to keep a selection on hand, but there are definitely a few that I return to over and over. My go-to solids, if you will… the ones I like to buy multiple yards of…

These are two of my current favorites – Kona Aqua & Kona Medium Gray. (I still love Kona Coal (very very much!) but I’m trying to give the medium gray some love too!).

Do you have any favorites? A certain color you always reach for?

(from top to bottom: Green Tea, Sage, Dark Violet, Thistle, Grass Green, Aqua, Medium Gray)

__

Aqua & Med. Gray purchased from Blueberry Buckle Quilt Studio. Sue carries a huge selection of Kona solids and ships really quickly!
