Two years ago, on June 1, 2008, I was convinced to start a blog. Thinking back now, I’m not really sure why I started one — I wasn’t even sure what I was going to blog about! Anyway, my first blog post can be found here, and I imagine you might get a laugh from reading it. I owned that very tiny stack of fabric, and I’m not even sure I even knew how to sew at the time!

So this is a celebration of 2 years of blogging. Turns out I do like blogging, and since starting the blog, turns out I also love (love!) fabric and making quilts. I think it’s fun to celebrate milestones, and I think this one is worth celebrating! And by celebrating, I mean a giveaway, of course! Thanks to my wonderful sponsors, I have a fun list of prizes for you!

So, here they are, in no particular order…

Prizes 1,2, & 3 from Laurie Wisbrun of Scarlet Fig -

Laurie has been designing and printing fabulously fun fabrics through Spoonflower for some time. She also has recently worked with Robert Kaufman and her new line, Tufted Tweets, will be coming out in June. I know you’ve all seen it and love it (I sure do!).

Laurie has generously donated three prizes, one for each winner. There are 2 fat quarter bundles of her Tufted Tweets line and also a 1/2 yard bundle of Laurie’s Donkeys in Wellies collection through Spoonflower.

Prizes 4-8, from Kathy of Pink Chalk Fabrics -

You all know and love Kathy, right? She has a wonderful selection of fabrics as well as a great selection of solids. She’s also well known for her fabulous customer service and her speedy shipping.

Kathy’s generously donated 5 $20 gift certificates so the winners can select exactly what they want!

Prize 9, from Charlie and Lindsay of Hawthorne Threads -

I sometimes feel like Charlie and Lindsay are my neighbors, though while NY is close to VT, it’s not that close! (I do receive my fabrics really quickly though!) They have a really great website — tons of great fabrics from all your favorite designers as well as a fun color matching feature and photos of finished projects. I also love their ‘coming soon’ section – it’s fun to drool over the new fabric lines. They offer discounts for larger purchases and tiered pricing for repeat customers.

They’re offering a fabulous fat quarter bundle of Denyse Schmidt’s newest line, Hope Valley.

Prize 10, from Jody of the Fabric Shoppe -

Jody is a new sponsor, with a wonderful Etsy shop, specializing in all your favorite fabrics, sold by the yard and in fun fat quarter, 1/2 yard, and yard bundles. Jody also puts a different fat quarter on sale for $1 on a weekly basis. I always love to see what’s being offered that week, and of course it’s great to be able to add a fun piece of fabric to your stash for only $1!

Jody’s offering a fat quarter bundle of Freebird, which is the newest line by Momo.

Prize 11, from Randi at Fresh Squeezed Fabrics -

Randi is also a new sponsor. I was first attracted to her shop for her fun, bright mix of fabrics and then I also discovered that she also carries some fun patterns – lots of great bag patterns and my favorite tunic pattern, the Shearwater Kaftan. She also has a really great sale section!

Randi is offering up this great new bag pattern, the Emma Day Bag by Tanya Whelan, as well as 2 yards of fabrics required to make the bag.

Prize 12, from Pam at Mad about Patchwork -

Pam is located in Canada and has a great online shop with great printed and solid fabrics. She also sells bundles, patterns, books and even cotton rick rack in great colors. She also has a great blog here, with photos of great quilts. I’m loving these quilts in shades of purples!

Pam is donating one of my favorite books, Liberated Quiltmaking II by Gwen Marston. You might remember that my Flying Farfalle (and my (still unfinished) Dinner Date quilts are inspired by one of the quilts in this book).

Prize 13, from Cindy of Sewing on the Edge -

Cindy isn’t currently a sponsor, but I absolutely love her pincushions and asked if she’d want to participate in this anniversary giveaway. She collects all kinds of selvedges and creates some of the very best pincushions. I’m lucky enough to have one made of Heather Ross selvedges and I love it! Cindy uses crushed walnut shells and it gives the pincushions a really great weight. Each one has a variety of selvedges and cute piping and a corresponding print for the back.

For this giveaway, Cindy is giving away the pincushion shown in the front in this photo (others, such as the two in the background of the photo, can be found in her Etsy shop).

Prize 14, from Cynthia of Fabricworm -

Cynthia was my first sponsor, and I think her shop might have been the first shop I ordered fabric from online! She has a huge selection of prints and I always find something new (and almost always something I never even knew I needed!) She also has a great selection of Japanese prints and a fun selection of childrens prints. Cynthia has also started Birch Fabrics, which produces 100% organic fabrics.

Cynthia has generously donated a fat quarter bundle of their newest line, Circa 50.

Prizes 15 & 16, from Sue at Blueberry Buckle -

Sue has all the Kona solids you might ever need! She carries over 150 different Kona colors, so you’re sure to be able to find the color you want. She sells them by the yard, 1/2 yard or FQ, or, if you’re like me and like to order multiple yards of your favorite colors, Sue is quick to set up custom listings.

Sue is offering 2 $25 gift certificates so you can select exactly what you need.

Prize 17, from Jackie of Canton Village Quilt Works -

If you’ve spent any time looking through blogs, you’ve probably read a comment from Jackie. She reads and comments on a huge number of blogs, all the while maintaining her online shop and her own blog! Jackie also sells a great selection of Kona solids, including the absolutely essential Kona color chart, as well as charm packs, roll ups and fat quarter bundles of Konas.

Jackie is offering a beautiful ROYGBIV fat quarter bundle of Kona cottons. A great start to your collection, or a wonderful addition to any Kona stash!

Prizes 18, 19 & 20, from Phiona of Nido -

Phiona is a local sponsor who owns a fabulous fabric and yarn shop in downtown Burlington. She carries a great mix of all the newest designer fabrics, along with an entire range of corresponding solids. I love that she carries more than just quilting weight cottons too – I’ve picked up a lot of the Anna Maria Horner voiles, as well as some of the new Nani Iro double gauze fabrics. She also carries some Marimekko prints and several prints by Mod Green Pod, which I’ve been using for market bags. And did I mention how cute the shop is? I go there for the fabulous fabrics, but often spend a lot of time openly coveting her antiques! If you’re in the Burlington area, be sure to stop by and say hi!

Phiona has donated three wonderful prizes – 1 yard of a gorgeous Nani Iro print as well as two sample bags of Marimekko fabrics, which each include 5 cuts of fun Marimekko prints.

I’ve put together a collection of fat eighths of some of my very favorite prints.

By now I know you’ve all seen photos of this gorgeous new fabric. It’s a new line by Laurie Wisbrun for Robert Kaufman Fabrics, called Tufted Tweets. I had a chance to work with it to create a couple quilts, so I can tell you how absolutely wonderful it is! A huge congrats to Laurie for a really stunning line!

It will be arriving in stores sometime this month, but in the meantime, how would you like to win some? The generous folks at Robert Kaufman have sent two fat quarter packs of the whole line – a total of three yards each. Just think of all the fun you could have!

To enter, leave a comment on this post (one comment per person, please!). Maybe you’d let me know which color is your favorite. And if you already know, maybe which particular print you think will be your favorite. (That’s a hard one to answer – they’re all gorgeous! – but today I’m really feeling the Avian Therapy in sorbet!) Or if you’d rather, let me know what you think you’d make out of these fabrics.

Me? I’d make another quilt. I’m kind of partial to them…

I’ll randomly pick two winners on Thursday night!

It’s been a long time since the last giveaway… we ought to remedy that, right?

This is kind of silly, and maybe some of you won’t be interested, but remember those hexagons? I love making them, (and I’ll probably continue making more!) but it turns out that I don’t like sewing them together…

It’s sad, because I’ve seen such lovely hexagon projects on other blogs and on flickr (and I really wanted a hexagon pillow!), but I guess my patience for handsewing just isn’t there. At the rate I’m going, I really don’t think I’ll ever get to the point of having a finished hexagon project.

Anyway, that’s where you come in. I have this stack of hexagons made out of lots of prints from the Flea Market Fancy line… anyone want them? I’m sure there’s someone out there who does have the ability and patience to sew them into something really wonderful. (or if not, maybe you just want the FMF fabric – you’re also welcome to just remove the basting stitches and you’ll have small squares of FMF)

To enter, leave a comment here letting me know what you think of hexagons – (have you tried making any?, do you like them?, how do you feel about handsewing? etc…), and maybe what you’d make out of these hexagons if you won. We’re heading back home from California today and I’ll be sitting in the airport for a good part of the day, so your comments will keep me entertained. I’ll pick a winner on Thursday…

__

These hexagons are 1 1/4″, and I should also note that I cut out the paper hexagon shapes by hand, so I can’t absolutely guarantee that they’re all perfectly exact. I did my best though, so hopefully they’ll fit together as they should!!

Oh, and of course international entries are accepted!

Thanks for all your wonderful comments! Comments are now closed and I’ll pick and announce a winner tomorrow morning!

We took part in the Black Friday madness one year – heading out at some really early hour. If I recall, it was snowing and sleeting, and quite cold. For whatever reason, we headed to Home Depot, where we bought a flashlight and a shop vac. Maybe they were really great deals, or maybe there were really limited quantities of these items. Probably not though. Something tells me that we could have gotten those deals at any time that day. Or any day, even.

There was something kind of fun about searching for a deal at some crazy early hour, but since then I’ve decided to stick to finding deals online instead. While wearing slippers and sweatpants. And drinking coffee.

Speaking of, here are a couple sales I’ll probably be taking advantage of -

Pink Chalk Fabrics – Kathy’s having a Pink Friday sale. You can head over to her shop to see what’s on sale. There’s also free shipping if you spend $50 or more (I’m always sucked in by free shipping!).

Fabricworm – 15% off orders over $100 with coupon code thanks150ff, good until 11/30. (And for those who asked, I hear that Cynthia will be getting Denyse Schmidt’s Hope Valley in her shop midweek next week.)

Anyway, it doesn’t stop me from wanting to hear stories of those who do head out early to find deals on Black Friday. So perhaps a giveaway will entice you to tell those stories…. how about you leave a comment here to be entered to win – Do you go out shopping on Black Friday? Have you found great deals? Do you wait in line for hours to be the first in the store? If you do not, or if you live somewhere where today is just another Friday, then of course feel free to leave me a comment about anything!

I’ll select two winners this time and each winner will win two fat quarters of fabric. I’ve selected a few of my very favorite out of print Heather Ross fabrics from her Lightning Bugs line – goldfish, banana seat bikes, VWs… I love them all! I’ll let the first person selected have their pick of two, and then the second winner will win the remaining two fat quarters. Sound good? Let the commenting begin!

(oh, I’ll select the winners on Monday morning)

Comments are now closed. I’ll select a winner soon!

I’m sure many of you have seen previews for Denyse Schmidt’s newest fabric line, Hope Valley. If not, you can see it here. It’s not out yet, but they happened to have a couple fat quarter packs of the new fabric line at her studio sale last weekend, and I just couldn’t help myself. I actually already preordered the line, but when presented with it in person, I was too weak to resist.

And now I wanted to share a bit with someone here. I’m giving away a fat eighth of each of these four patterns below (for a total of a 1/2 yard of fabric). These are from the Piney Woods colorway.

Just leave me a comment on this post, letting me know what you think of this new line. Like it, dislike it? Do you plan on buying any? (or feel free to leave a comment about anything, really!)

I’ll select and post a winner on Friday!

Comments are now closed. I’ll announce the winner shortly!

It’s time for a giveaway, don’t you think? This week marks a momentous occasion for me — one that I want to celebrate with you, since without the internet and the world of blogging, I’d probably still be just staring at a pile of fabric, rather than at a pile of quilts! One year ago, on October 1st, I finished my very first quilt… a fall zig zag quilt, which you can see here.

Over the past year, I’ve quickly fallen in love with quilting (my family might use different words… I’m thinking the words ‘crazy’ and ‘obsessed’ might be bandied about…) In any case, crazy or not, it’s been a lot of fun, and you all are a part of why it’s so fun! So thank you so much for visiting, for commenting, for providing encouragement and helpful suggestions … you keep me wanting to continue this crazy quilting obsession!

And now the giveaway — I’ve made up a mini quilt using my very favorite fabric line, Denyse Schmidt’s Flea Market Fancy. This fabric is some of the very first fabric that I fell in love with and started collecting a little over a year ago, so it seems only appropriate that it should be used in this quilt. I quilted it with straight and curved lines (I love the way this quilting looks with the stars – it reminds me a bit of shooting stars) and used another FMF print for the binding.

I kept the backing simple, with just a couple smaller stars in one corner. The finished quilt measures about 24″ x 27″. I’d probably hang it, either horizontally or vertically, but you’re certainly welcome to use it as you’d like!

To enter, please leave a comment on this post. As always, I’d love it if you’d write more than ‘please enter me’ … Here are some ideas — what’s your favorite type of quilt? Do you prefer to use quilt patterns or do you like to make it up as you go? Do you like wonky or are you more into straight and traditional? Do you like to use fabrics from the same line (or by the same designer) or do you like to mix it up? Of course, if you’re not feeling these questions, or if you don’t quilt, feel free to leave a comment about anything else!

I’ll select a winner on Thursday, October 1st!

Edit: Comments are now closed. I’ll select and post the winner shortly!

Thank you for all the sweet comments on my last quilt… or, actually, thank you for all your great comments on all my quilts! I love hearing from you, and while I typically don’t have the time to respond to everyone, please know that I read and enjoy each and every one!

And now I think a little giveaway is in order. I’ve missed a few recent milestones – 200 posts (about 45 posts ago), and also 1 year of blogging – that came and went back in early June… so it’s high time! I’ve already done this giveaway once before, but I know there are a lot of people looking for this fabric so I’m going ahead with it again (sorry for the lack of originality!)

Up for grabs today – 2 fat quarters of Heather Ross’s VW fabric. It’s so adorable! And even if you don’t sew, it’s pretty cute to just look at!

Please just leave a comment on this post to be entered… it doesn’t have to be anything specific, but maybe something a little more than just ‘please enter me’ I enjoy hearing from you… so maybe tell me what you’re working on, or tell me about a project that you have in mind but that you haven’t had time to start yet (I have a ton of those!), or anything really! I’ll pick a winner on Thursday morning.

These pieces are small — some skinny strips, a couple selvedges (though I’m thinking about stealing one to use on the quilt back!) and some other assorted small leftover pieces (see that square with the wildflowers in the picture below? That measures 2″ x 2.5″, just to give you an idea of size.) I thought they might be useful to someone though. Or at the very least, if you haven’t purchased any of this fabric yet, you could see and feel it in person!

Leave me a comment here – you can just say hi if you want, or you could let me know if you have purchased (or are planning on purchasing) some of this fabric (and if so, what you plan on making out of it!). I have a bit more on order and may be looking for ideas!

We’ll make this a quick giveaway and I’ll pick a winner tomorrow morning.

Morgan thought the title should be binging and purging, but I didn’t feel that made for a nice visual…

Anyway, lately I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed by my fabric stash. Trying to organize and clean it up seems like a very daunting task and I don’t even know where to begin. I suppose most of the problem is due to my lack of organization. For so long I’ve felt that my sorting and piling method was working for me, but now I’m thinking I was just kidding myself. I’ve decided that I finally do have to get organized, and I suppose that means buying plastic bins and sorting and folding the fabric by color. (maybe then I’ll stop buying multiples of fabric I already own!)

One of my biggest problems has to be with my scrap stash. This picture shows many piles of scraps – yes, I can’t throw anything away! I have all the best intentions to use up every last scrap, but I realize that’s just not going to happen. I’m drowning in scraps and there aren’t enough hours in the day to sew them all together!

This is where you come in. I went through my scraps and came up with a few little bundles to give away. The first bundle is made up of larger scraps – those that I don’t think I’ll ever use.

Then I went through the small scraps – some of these are quite tiny (and now very wrinkly!), but I did at one time really think that I was going to use them. They’d be great for a spiderweb quilt, which is what I had in mind, but then never got around to. Or they could be used for any other small projects. Did I mention that they’re tiny? They are. I made up three bags of these small scraps.

To enter to win one of these four bundles, just leave a comment here. Maybe you can give me some ideas as to what you’d do with small scraps – I’m always up for new project ideas! I’ll pick 4 winners on Monday night.

Thanks for helping me do some spring cleaning! Maybe I’ll be able to show you a photo of a completely organized stash by then!

Did I mention a fabric giveaway? Oh, I think I did! I hope there are others of you out there who love Denyse Schmidt’s out of print Flea Market Fancy as much as I do. I spent a lot of time searching for them, and now I’m going to do a little sharing…

The winner will receive 2 fat quarters of this wonderful fabric. And since everyone has a different favorite, the winner will be able to select which they’d rather – either set 1 – a fat quarter of the yellow/gold sprout fabric (one of my very favorites!) and one of the lovely green floral

or set 2 – one fat quarter of each of these cute polka dot prints in blue and pink.

Just leave me a comment telling me which set you’d like. I’d also love it if you tell me your favorite out of print fabric – it could be a specific print, or an entire line that’s now out of print. Maybe you’ll make me feel better about my obsessive collecting! (and of course, if you don’t have a favorite out of print fabric, then just tell me your current favorite!)

I’ll pick a winner on Friday night and will post the winner on Saturday morning. Everyone’s welcome to enter!

Edit: Comments are now closed. I’ll announce a winner tomorrow morning!
